Ignorant Thugs Attack Josie Smith-Malave

a2 I was reminded today why I pack a glock.

And I am sorry-- this is one of those stories, as hard as I try, can not be made cute or funny.

Josie Smith-Malave , a contestant on season two of Top Chef , along with her sister and a friend, were attacked in a gay bashing incident in Long Island over the Labor Day Weekend.

The trouble started when the women went to Partners bar in Sea Cliff for a drink and began dancing together.

Incidentally, Smith-Malave's sister is straight. Its not like straight girls never dance together. It is kinda done out of necessity a lot of the time.

But some of the boys were profoundly troubled by this. And the scene in the bar started getting ugly The bartender escorted the girls out a side door.

But they were followed by ten thugs who thought it their god given duty to teach these ladies a lesson in morality.

The guys surrounded them--- screamed anti-gay slurs, punched , kicked and stole a camera.

These things don't happen if the crazy bitch pulls a gun.

I live in Detroit, Michigan has made it easier to get a CCW but in the city which is 97% black and where 25% of the black males can not legally get a CCW because of felony convictions we (I am Caucasian never convicted but crazy as a shit house rat) generally issue our own ccw for protection.

Shame on the ladies for not having a bit of 9mm punch for the little (minded) island troglodytes. This is the 21st fucking century for God's sake when will we let people live according to their own identities and sensibilities.

the bitches weren't the ones getting beat they were the ones doing the beating. Just like spouse abuser's too afraid to fight men.

This ain't your mommas America anymore. This is GW's amerikkka

BS, even though the implication is rude, and I guess implies some kind of typical liberal views on firearms and the sociological causes of violence in our society-- I will go ahead and answer.

I just suggested a practical way these girls could have prevented the shit from being beat out of them. Do you have a better solution. Or do you think that is just something they should have to endure?

No, I would not have wanted to be there. Those kind of things terrify me.

I've noticed you seem to get a lot of flack for posting these sorts of things. Well, I just wanted to say, keep up the good work and don't let yourself get discouraged. Supporting the Pink Pistols is great.

If nobody had guns, we'd need knives. There'd be no point - a bruiser out to get you can overpower a knife. Guns level the score. You don't have to be physically powerful to defend yourself effectively with a firearm.

Nathan,

I don't worry about the flack, I just like to think maybe someone somewhere got the point I am trying to make.

My beleifs on firearms goes beyond what I was talking about here. I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment.

The problem when you combine it with the idea that being armed might be useful for gay people, as the Pink Pistols do, you run into the problem that most people in the gay community are left leaning liberals, who are, as would be expected with that mindset, anti-firearm.

There are a number of ironies in this--one of which is that a lot of people who are pro-firearms are also very homophobic and have actually driven the gay community toward the left, since they do not have much company on the right.

It is not true totally. The libertarian party and all libertarian thinking people embrace the right of indiduality, including the rights of gay folks to be treated like everyone else, along with the right of each of those persons to be armed.

More important to me is the very situation I talked about. There is a lot of violence directed toward gay people, and it can not be totally appreciated unless you have been there. In this situation these girls would not have had the shit beat out of them if they had been armed.

I think for gay people, a firearm is not just a right--but life insurance.

I worked for just over two years as the senior cook at a Brooklyn barbecue joint and had the pleasure of meeting Josie during her time in a rival kitchen. She's sweet as can be, funny as hell, and just plain all-around fun (to say nothing of cute; that smile!!!), and those assholes should have been doused with kerosene and set ablaze for even looking at her the wrong way.

When I first moved into my neighborhood — Park Slope — about ten years ago, the place was so heavily populated with lesbians that some of them jokingly referred to it as "Dyke Slope," and that state of affairs did not sit well with many of the local, old school dudes who felt threatened enough by the mere existence of Sapphistry to start assaulting innocent dykes on the street and slashing their faces with boxcutters. Thankfully that bullshit died out once the Sisterhood got their shit together and kept a steely eye on who and what was around. My pal Lee, a close friend since college, and other intimidating bruiserette babes stood up to those jerkoffs and they took off like the Heineken-marinaded ass-clowns they were.

And on that note, I would like to apologize on behalf of my gender for the never-ending idiocy of fearful men. What's there to be afraid of? Two women kissing? Puh-leeze.

Oh, and I love your site!
