Who Will Stop Joe Arpaio?

For the time being, the Know Nothing Party doesn't have the national stage.Hannity, O'Reilly, Coutler, et al are more concerned about a black preacher in Chicago, and Limbaugh's hysterical stab at Ohio election-tampering martyrdom.
Besides, for the most part, America is more distressed about losing their jobs, homes and life savings.
But down here in Arizona, broken borders are still a cause celebre. This is partly because the state is inhabited by more dumbasses per capita than it really deserves. And then there is the prominent Lou Dobbs Gasbag Hall of Famer—Joe Arpaio, the Sheriff of Maricopa County.
Shoving aside thousands of outstanding felony warrants, the Sheriff dispatched his posse of pretend law enforcement officers out to the Bell Road area, with instructions to throw pink handcuffs on Mexican looking mothers driving cars with cracked windshields.
The most recent dog and pony show started on Good Friday, when Nicklebag, and his battalion of teeny weenie compensators, went out to arrest brown people on bullshit charges. This particular ethnic cleansing effort was coordinated with his pal Rusty Childress, distributor of soft core porn, and exalted wizard of the white trash rabble known as United for a Sovereign America.
And they were back last Thursday and Friday—the White Supremacists and Immigrant Rights Groups drawing battle lines, taunting each other. It is the classic story of people that need to get a life. Rusty should really concentrate on peddling Kias—neither rallying around the Sheriff nor organizing skinhead rallies pays the bills.
At least this time they left the tank back at headquarters.
But seriously, Nicklebag is now creating a truly dangerous situation—not the kind of thing most people expect out of their top law enforcement officer:Even though foolish bravehearts ,who dare criticize Sheriff Joe, usually end up in his jail, under investigation, or labeled a sexual deviant, some people that matter, like Phoenix mayor, Phil Gordon, are starting to say enough is enough. On Friday Gordon stated the obvious, that the most recent disgrace was just another one of Nicklebag's TV publicity stunts, and suggested he get back to performing his statutorily defined duties.
Of course, Arpaio, despite his dull-witted, doughy appearance, is always quick with a comeback. The Sheriff told the press that he and the posse were only there at the invitation of the local business owners.
As it turned out there were only eight signatures on the invitation, which was spearheaded by local bigot, and famous public urinator Buffalo Rick Galeener . That determined dude, sometimes joined by a few goofballs from the United for a Sovereign America outfit, has been sitting out on Bell Road since the first of the year, in a one man protest against the the Mexicali invasion. Did I mention something about getting a life? There is an election coming up in the fall, but the people of Maricopa County can not really be trusted to rid the land of Joe Arpaio. The more the civilized world laughs at their Sheriff, the more determined they seem to become.
I dunno, as much as I generally dislike the idea, before someone gets killed, maybe its time to get a federal judge to rein in this national embarrassment.
And just so any Arizonans reading this know—in most of these United States they have no such a thing as Sheriff's Posses.

P.S.--here are a few of the ignorant morons who came out to rally behind Nicklebag:
A picture is worth a thousand words.

"Nickelbag" is enforcing the law. The protesters are creating a truly dangerous situation.
Nicklebag continues the tradition that got him the nickname from fellow DEA agents in his pre-Sheriff days--a highly developed proficiency in arresting people for small time bullshit stuff.
The difference is then he did it only because it made him feel like a big shot federal agent. Nowadays he gets to pretend he is leading the charge in saving the nation from the hordes of barbarians storming the citadel.
On the protesters, as long as they are full fledged American citizens I am sure you would no more begrudge them the right to exercise their First Amendment rights anymore than you would pissy Buffalo Rick Galeener.
Besides only the posse and backup white trash rabble were packing.

Your AZ "Nicklebag" cowboy hangs his hat on the sun setting with the immigration issue it seems. He's got until November to rattle his saber with his supporters. Then there will be tea leaves to read and it should curb his "grandstanding" if he's still around.
So how many actual businesses have had their license revoked for the illegal immigration purge?
I read the national political strategy for the benefit of political ultra conservatives is now in play again. U.S. Department of Homeland Security
(DHS) released an amended rule regarding so-called
“no match” letters, restarting the clock on a federal
crackdown on potential illegal immigrants employed
in the United States. Seems the current administration is puppeting under Bush to pander to the party right for November votes and is taking it's freedoms to purge illegals while it can without a Democratic or McCain congress compromise.
If it gets traction again without further legal injuction in about August just in time for party conventions more federal raids will be increasing the flames of more economic misery, notably agricultural this time. Fines and imprisonment are light penalties compared to the eventual financial ruin of such business. Ag product pricing NEVER gets to set the sale price of the goods it sells so it can't pass on union labor scale wage costs like most other competing businesses.
Only the row crop farmers less dependent on hand labor operate without migrant workers.
Milk, cheese, fruits and veggetables will perish depending on how many strategic INS raids happen between now and the next election. With the farm bankrutpt imprisonment doesn't sound so bad since the job economy is in the tank? Have fun with Joe!
Becky, I feel your facts are not entirely in order on one point.
There are posses all over the place. One in Sun City, Arizona, another in another county in Arizona, one in Oregon, Colorado, Minnesota, a number in Texas, and one in Sacramento where I lived for 11 years. They generally assist when people are lost ( search & rescue efforts & during disasters )and are usually volunteers but they DO operate in locations all over the country.
However, I have NOT heard of posses being used to bolster the abuse of power like in your county.
best,
falkie
As a followup to my earlier comment, I found a website... Mounted Search & Rescue Mounted websites worldwide...
http://www.|biblio.org/msar/units/index.html
I counted 100 posses in this country alone ( I stopped at that number & there are more if you count units with the word mounted in them which serve the same function as a posse )
I used to belong with the Civil Air Patrol as a cadet in the 1950s and we used to work with posses and auxiliary units back then. I am preparing to go back into CAP as a volunteer, thus my interest in the subject.
Falkie, again...
Falkie, in my attmept to be cute and make a point, I should have been clearer. In many jurisidicitons there are reserve police officers and things like that. They do as you say--search and rescue, direct traffic at events like parades and ball games, do some of the grunt work in the office, etc.
But, there are not many places where they have actual posses of armed guys out arresting people on civil infractions and enforcing immigration law. For one thing, to have anyone, other than fully trained law enforcement officers, doing this type of thing opens you up big time to liability--not that Nicklebag cares about that--he has already cost Maricopa county and the State of Arizona some 25 million in civil cases, not to mention the attorneys fees expended in defending his assine and publicity seeking stuff.

I wasn't trying to attack you or anything. Your sheriff is the biggest idiot since the Sheriff of Nottingham.
His antics have long been known even way out here on the edge of the bay.
hugs,
falkie
By enforcing small-time bullshit stuff you diminish the propensity for bigger not so bullshit stuff from getting bigger.
Respectfully,
