Barack Obama and the Black Judas

black judas

a2 Jeremiah Wright, despite a stubborn streak of lunacy, is clearly an intelligent and accomplished person, so it is fair to assume that he is deliberately sabotaging Barack Obama's campaign.

Some are saying his idiotic hyperventilation is just the result of a profound sense of narcissism. But there is more to it than that.

If Barack Obama was to be elected president of the United States, the Jeremy Wrights and Al Sharptons of America would be pushed off the front page, and have to go back to preaching about Jesus, and visiting sick parishioners in the hospital.

After all, when a brother is the Leader of the Free World, he is not only going to get more press than Al Sharpton and Jeremy Wright, but it is going to be a little difficult to blame everything on the man.

Al Sharpton has always been skeptical of the mulatto, not only because he derailed his plans to get mucho ego stroking and coin in another quixotic run for the White House, but more importantly because he considers Obama to be just another house nigga—like Colin Powell or Tiger Woods.

Today, he took his place in the tag team after the Reverend Wright put the odds-on-favorite Democratic nominee on the ropes.

Al Sharpton denounced Obama because he does not wish to join in his effort to shut down New York City, in protest over the verdict in the police shooting case.

Sharpton said he had hoped Obama would "side with the Bell family" and not use it as an "opportunity to grandstand in front of white people."

Obama attempted today to toss his pastor under the bus, but it was weak, and too little, too late. But perhaps there is really nothing he could do.

There are a lot of people in America who would not vote for an African-American under any circumstances. But there are a whole lot more who like to preface their remarks with the qualification “I am not a racist, but...” or "this has nothing to do with race..."

Wright's loud and obnoxious presence on the national stage, has given the “not racist but” folks the opportunity to dwell on this ad nauseum, all the while protesting that it has nothing to do with race.

I disagree with Barack Obama on a lot of issues. But the success of his candidacy truly was something that America, was rightly, very proud of.

It is too bad he had to be brought down in this way.

There is always a Judas.

this is a really brave post, becky. i am seriously impressed.

you know i'm a hillary girl and all -- but i don't think even this recent jeremiah wright stuff is enough to bring down the entire obama campaign. absent a miracle, there just is no way hillary can win the nomination at this point. it is mathematically impossible! i'll be happy to eat my words when the time comes, but seriously, it'll take a miracle at this point!!

i think obama settled the reverend wright problem once and for all by denouncing him today. he's going to lose very few of the black vote, the majority of which has been going to him anyway, and he'll remain solid with the white vote, among the educated and middle-class. when he becomes the democratic nominee, i think i'll be more inclined to give him my vote, not mccain.

if you want, we can make it more fun and start up a friendly bet.

I think that this whole mess gives Obama an opportunity to define himself as a black American, as an opposite to the racial policies of Rev. Wright.

Anyone who wants people such as Wright and Sharpton to be marginalized in society should vote for Obama, as him becoming president would take a lot of power away from the "blacks first" movement.

Hey, I'm waiting for your Hannah Montana-photo-shoot entry! I just did a little one... I'm curious what you think. You no doubt will have much more entertaining things to say about it than I do.

I think this Reverend Wright issue has already damaged Senator Obama beyond his capacity for repair. But to disagree with you slightly Becky, I place most of the blame on the Senator's head. Senator Obama's behavior during the entire fracas has resulted in the bloom fading from his rose. Obama is a light-weight in the political arena who has never faced serious opposition before, and his past vacillation with regards to Wright only helped to make that more apparent.

However, he still commands the lead in delegates. And he will retain that front-runner status into the convention. The "super" delegates are going to be the key of course, but I think if I were one, I'd be coming down with a bad case of the flu. The Dem's are in a nasty box right now.

OK I have to take exception to your use of the "not racist but" description. It implies that everyone who won't vote for Obama won't dos so because they are racist. I admit there is some of that (maybe a lot, I don't know) but some people won't vote for him for other reasons,
some as simple as he is a democrat (me), he is a law professor (me again), they like hillary better (not me but some I am sure). Anyway it isn't all racially motivated. I have to admit in the dark of night when it looked like Huckabee might actually make a serious run at the candidacy I toyed with the idea of supporting Obama, but then I came to my senses.

It doesn't imply any such thing Chad. It implies that people who start off remarks by saying "I am not racist, but"--always are.

As an experiment I had some people here at work read that paragraph and they took it the same as me. Maybe we are all extraordinarily sensitive. , or maybe its the quantum effect - measuring an outcome changes it- but at least I am not alone.

or maybe they were just trying to get rid of me since I am as annoying at work as I am online. part of my secret plan for world domination. I just haven't been able to solidify a strategy beyond the be annoying part yet.
